Vueling counts as an EU/EEA airline, so these rules can apply both to flights departing the EU/EEA and to flights into the EU/EEA that Vueling operates. The route and the actual operating carrier always decide a specific case.
How EU261 applies to Vueling
As an EU/EEA air carrier, Vueling's flights are normally covered by Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 both when departing from the EU/EEA and when arriving in the EU/EEA, provided that Vueling is the operating air carrier. The assessment is always made flight by flight, on the basis of the route and the carrier actually operating it. A flight sold under the Vueling name but operated by another carrier is assessed according to that operating carrier's status.
Who operates the flight
Vueling's own passenger rights information states that the obligation to pay compensation under Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 rests with the operating air carrier.
More about Vueling
Vueling states in its help centre that on a delay its ground staff offer tickets for meals and beverages free of charge according to the length of the delay, and that a passenger who misses a connection between two Vueling flights after a delay or cancellation is, according to the airline, relocated to the next available flight. For delays of more than five hours Vueling describes a refund of the full cost of the unused journey within seven days of receiving the claim. According to Vueling, compensation can be offered as a so-called compensation voucher, a flight credit that the airline says is valid for up to 18 months from issue; Vueling describes it as an option open to the passenger. The airline refers to its chats for requesting compensation and for following an ongoing case. Vueling is part of IAG (acquired on 26 April 2013 according to IAG), and according to an IAG report from 2023 its main base is Barcelona El Prat.
