Air Corsica pilot strike ends: your rights if your flight was disrupted
At a glance
A strike by an airline's own pilots is normally not an extraordinary circumstance. EU261 compensation may therefore be due if your trip is disrupted, subject to the actual circumstances. Cancellation also gives you the choice of a refund or re-routing.

Check what happened to your flight
Was your flight on 9 to 12 October cancelled, or did you arrive 3 hours or more late? Those are the situations where compensation may need to be assessed.
Keep the cancellation message
Save the message about your own booking and note when you received it. Keep your booking, actual arrival time and receipts too.
Travelling from 13 October?
Check your booking. The normal schedule resumes, but the ATR groundings may still change individual flights.
Your passenger rights
These rights concern flights covered by EU261. Departure, operating carrier and the actual disruption determine what you can claim.
Re-routing or refund
For a covered cancelled Air Corsica flight, choose a refund or re-routing. Your choice should reflect whether you still need to travel.
Care while waiting
Meals and necessary accommodation with transfers may be due while awaiting the earliest re-routing, even when financial compensation is not payable.
Possible financial compensation
A pay strike by the airline’s own pilots is normally not extraordinary. Compensation may apply, subject to your flight, notification and re-routing.
Strike over: update 12 October 2026
- Air Corsica announced on 12 October an agreement with the pilot unions after three days of strike, a memorandum of understanding “accepted by the parties” according to AFP. The terms were not disclosed.
- The flight programme resumes normally from Tuesday 13 October. During the strike days and on Monday 12 October, chartered aircraft covered the public service routes between Corsica’s four airports and Paris, Marseille and Nice.
- Separately, five of Air Corsica’s seven ATR 72-600 have been grounded as a precaution since September, after unusual oil odours in the cockpits. Check your booking even after the strike.
Saturday 10 October: programme, not completed flights
- The programme reproduced by Corse Net Infos lists 33 departures to and from Corsica. It includes Paris-Orly, Marseille, Nice, Charleroi and Lourdes. These are scheduled services, not a verified total of flights actually operated.
- Air Corsica adapts its schedule using charter aircraft and bus transfers. Check the airport as well as the departure time in your individual booking.
- The pilots say they are ready to resume talks. The reviewed report confirms no settlement and gives no complete Saturday cancellation total. The strike notice ran through 16 October; the strike ended with an agreement on 12 October.
Strike update: 9 October 2026
- AFP reports 9 of 33 Air Corsica departures cancelled from Ajaccio, Bastia, Figari and Calvi on 9 October, plus 8 cancelled arrivals. These counts may overlap and do not establish 17 distinct flights.
- Air Corsica says most services are operating through larger charter aircraft and combined departures. The pilot pay strike was planned through 16 October; it ended with an agreement on 12 October.
- Separate ATR aircraft groundings also affect operations. The actual cause of your flight disruption still needs individual assessment.
What has been reported?
On 8 October 2026, Corse Net Infos reported that SNPL and SPAC were calling Air Corsica pilots to stop work during the 9–16 October strike notice.
According to Corse Net Infos, Air Corsica is concentrating chartered aircraft on Bastia and Figari. Ajaccio and Calvi require specific crew qualifications. Adapted schedules and bus transfers are intended to help passengers reach their destinations; affected bookings are to receive individual updates.
On 12 October 2026, AFP reported that Air Corsica had reached an agreement with the pilot unions after three days of strike. The airline said the flight programme would resume normally from Tuesday 13 October.
What remains uncertain?
Five of Air Corsica’s seven ATR 72-600 have been grounded as a precaution since September. How long the groundings will last has not been reported, and they may still affect individual flights after the strike.
A disruption from 13 October may have a different cause than the strike. Technical problems are normally within the airline’s control, but each case is assessed individually. Follow the message for your booking.
Which flights are covered?
Air Corsica flights within France are generally covered by EU261. A replacement flight operating as planned does not give a right to standard compensation solely because a strike is taking place.
Can this cause qualify for compensation?
In C-28/20, the Court of Justice held that a union-organised strike by an airline's own employees concerning matters including pay does not fall within the extraordinary-circumstances exception. This supports the assessment of an internal pilot strike. A different actual cause of disruption needs separate assessment.
Notice and re-routing matter
For cancellation, standard compensation is normally not due after at least 14 days' notice. With 7–14 days' notice, the exception requires offered re-routing departing no more than two hours early and arriving less than four hours late. With less than seven days' notice, the limits are no more than one hour early and less than two hours late. The airline must prove when it notified you.
An arrival delay of at least three hours may also qualify for compensation. If diverted to another airport serving the same town, city or region, the carrier must pay the transfer to the booked airport or another agreed nearby destination. Delay is assessed on arrival there. Being on the same island does not automatically establish the same region under the Regulation.
If the alternative airport does not serve the same town, city or region, the diversion is generally treated as a cancellation. The cancellation conditions must then be assessed. A bus transfer therefore does not automatically remove the right to compensation.
Compensation when the conditions are met
The amount depends on distance and whether a re-routing reduction applies.
| Flight distance | Compensation level |
|---|---|
| Flights up to 1,500 km | €250 |
| 1,500–3,500 km (and longer intra-EU flights) | €400 |
| Flights over 3,500 km | €600 |
The amounts apply per passenger.
The airline may halve the amount if it offers rerouting that arrives no more than 2 hours (up to 1,500 km), 3 hours (1,500–3,500 km and longer intra-EU flights) or 4 hours (other flights over 3,500 km) after the original arrival time (Article 7(2)). For a delay on a flight over 3,500 km to or from a country outside the EU, the amount may also be halved if you arrive at least three but less than four hours late (Court of Justice, Sturgeon and Others, paragraph 63).
Refunds, re-routing and care
On cancellation, choose a refund or re-routing at the earliest opportunity, or a suitable later date subject to availability. While awaiting earliest-opportunity re-routing, care can include reasonable meals, refreshments, communication, and accommodation and transfers when an overnight stay is necessary. These rights also apply when standard compensation is not due. Keep receipts if the airline does not provide care.
Frequently asked questions
No. The route, operating carrier, actual disruption, notice and offered re-routing determine the outcome. A news report cannot establish your individual entitlement.
No. The airline must be able to prove that you were individually informed of cancellation and when. Keep the message about your own booking.
Refund and re-routing are alternative choices. If you still want to travel, request re-routing at the earliest opportunity and check the options before choosing a refund. Your choice affects the airline continued assistance obligations.
