Another flight problemWhat to do now
Check BRU and your flight number
Use the airline’s booking notification. This concerns Brussels Airport in Zaventem, not automatically Charleroi.
Request alternatives from the airline
Alyzia provides ground handling, but ask the airline responsible for your flight for re-routing or a refund.
Ask for care while waiting in Brussels
When awaiting the earliest re-routing, request meals and necessary accommodation with transport.
Record notices and actual times
Save the flight status, personal notification and receipts. Ask for an explanation linking the Alyzia disruption to your departure.
Your passenger rights
These rights concern flights covered by EU261. Departure, operating carrier and the actual disruption determine what you can claim.
Re-routing or refund
A covered BRU cancellation can give you a choice of refund or re-routing. The airline must offer this even when Alyzia is the cause.
Care while waiting
Necessary care may remain available when an external strike excludes financial compensation. Ask the airline to arrange it and retain reasonable expenses.
Possible financial compensation
An external ground-handler strike may be extraordinary. The airline must still establish its connection to your flight and the reasonable measures taken.
What is confirmed: checked 9 October 2026
- The airport says more than half of Alyzia-handled flights are expected to operate; some flights have been cancelled. Its notice expects no impact on Aviapartner-handled flights.
- On 8 October, The Independent reported airport confirmation of around 100 cancellations for 9 October. This is a reported airport total, not confirmation of your booking status.
- Earlier estimates of 140 cancellations should not be treated as a confirmed final total. Flight status changes appear when airlines register them.
What remains uncertain?
Final cancellations, affected-passenger totals and your individual flight status need separate checks. A disruption involving one handler does not automatically affect every airline or Brussels Charleroi.
Check the handler, then your booking
At Brussels, the distinction between Alyzia and Aviapartner matters. Start with the airport directory, then use the airline’s booking-specific message to decide your next step. If cancelled, ask the carrier to explain the actual cause and offer onward travel. Keep any confirmation that the flight will operate too.
Which passenger rules apply?
EU261 normally covers departures from the EU on any carrier and arrivals into the EU from outside it on an EU carrier. The operating airline and route matter. A strike notice or schedule announcement alone is not proof that your booked flight was cancelled.
Can you claim standard compensation?
The action concerns a ground handling provider. An external labour dispute may be an extraordinary circumstance, but the airline must show the connection with your flight and that reasonable measures could not avoid the disruption. A general reference to a strike does not decide your individual case.
Refund or re-routing
For a covered cancellation, you should be offered a choice: reimbursement, re-routing at the earliest opportunity under comparable conditions, or travel at a later suitable date subject to availability. These rights are separate from standard compensation. If you still want to travel, ask for re-routing before choosing reimbursement.
Food, hotel and help while waiting
When the care rules apply, the airline should provide reasonable meals and communication. Necessary overnight accommodation and transfers may also be required while you await re-routing at the earliest opportunity. Ask the airline to arrange help and keep itemised receipts for reasonable expenses if it fails to do so. Care is not automatic reimbursement of every pre-booked holiday cost.
Frequently asked questions
Brussels Airport points passengers to its airline and ground handler directory. Check the provider for your flight and ask the airline about your booking. Departing from BRU does not mean Alyzia handles your service.
The reviewed information concerns Brussels Airport in Zaventem, airport code BRU. It does not establish cancellations at Charleroi, CRL. Check your booking’s airport code before relying on this update.
The airport says cancellations appear after the airline registers them. Check booking messages and the airline’s own status as well. An absent cancellation marker is not a final guarantee of departure.
