What to do now

  1. Check the date and scope

Separate Bari on 6 November from the national ENAV action placed on 21 November in dated reporting. A local notice is not a nationwide airport closure.

  2. Follow airline messages

Check your booking and flight status close to departure. For easyJet, reconcile calendar claims with the airline’s personal messages.

  3. Check options before cancelling

If the flight is still scheduled, voluntary cancellation may be governed by your ticket conditions. An actual cancellation may trigger re-routing or reimbursement under EU261.

  4. Keep messages and receipts

Save your booking, notifications, stated cause and actual arrival time. Retain reasonable receipts if necessary assistance is not provided.

Your passenger rights

Departures from Italy normally fall within EU261. For arrivals, scope depends on departure point and operating airline. Rights depend on actual disruption, not a calendar entry.

The cause matters

Air traffic control strikes may be extraordinary. An airline’s own employment-conditions strike is normally assessed differently. Neither description automatically settles your journey.

Alternatives after cancellation

For a cancellation covered by EU261, re-routing or reimbursement may be available under the applicable conditions.

Help while waiting

For qualifying waits, meals, necessary accommodation and transfers may be covered even when fixed compensation is not payable.

Read the background and sources

Sources checked on 29 October

  • Bari: local ENAV notice for 6 November, 13:00–17:00, in the ministry list read and reporting dated 29 October.
  • National ENAV: dated reporting gives 21 November. We do not present nationwide action on the 6th as confirmed.
  • easyJet: conflicting calendars. Neither an active notice nor withdrawal has been conclusively established in our check.

The Bari notice is local

The separate notice concerns ENAV personnel at Bari Airport for four hours on 6 November. It is not an announcement that all Italian air traffic will stop.

Our sources contain no verified list of affected flights or airlines, or final cancellation figures. Check your booking even if a calendar lists strike times.

What about easyJet?

Fiumicino.it lists an easyJet flight crew notice for 6 November, covering the day with separate 13:00–16:59 wording for Bari flights. Avviso Scioperi instead marks an easyJet entry for that date as withdrawn. Both are independent calendars.

We have not confirmed which position applies through a current primary document from the airline, union or authority. easyJet status is therefore unresolved, rather than a confirmed active or cancelled strike.

Separate 6 November from 21 November

La Nuova Sardegna’s dated report on 29 October lists national ENAV action on 21 November from 13:00 to 17:00 and Bari action on 6 November. Some calendars still show a national entry for the 6th as well.

We have not reviewed a withdrawal document establishing that one action formally replaced the other. Do not treat conflicting entries as proof of confirmed national action on 6 November.

Protected flight times are not your flight status

ENAC’s general rules identify protected flight periods of 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 local time, with detailed service-specific conditions. They do not mean every other flight is cancelled or your departure is unaffected.

We have not verified a guaranteed-flight list specifically for 6 November. Follow the airline’s current information.

EU261: separate compensation, alternatives and care

An air traffic control strike may be an extraordinary circumstance. To avoid fixed compensation, the airline must still show the link to the disruption and that it could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

An airline’s own employment-conditions strike is normally not extraordinary. Demands only public authorities can meet may be assessed differently under C-28/20. This does not establish the outcome for a particular easyJet flight.

At least 14 days’ cancellation notice normally excludes fixed cancellation compensation; later notice and offered re-routing need assessment. Travel alternatives and necessary care are separate questions. Read about cancelled flights and delays.
