Italy flight strikes on 16 October: easyJet
At a glance
On 15 October, Italy’s official register lists a strike notice for easyJet flight crew on 16 October 2026. The notice for staff at Pisa and Florence, earlier listed for 16 October, is now listed for 30 October. A notice does not mean every flight is cancelled. Compensation depends partly on whether the disruption is caused by the airline’s own staff or an external organisation.

Confirmed: On 15 October the register lists easyJet flight crew for 16 October. Pisa and Florence are no longer listed for 16 October but for 30 October.
Still uncertain: Participation and operating schedules, and why Pisa and Florence now have a different date. ENAV and Venice security staff were not found for this date in the reviewed list.

Another flight problemWhat to do now
Check the airport and departure involved
Establish whether you fly with easyJet. The notice does not mean all Italian air traffic will stop. If you fly through Pisa or Florence, a notice for 30 October applies instead.
Ask for the actual disruption cause
Find out whether your cancellation is attributed to airline crew or external staff. This distinction matters for compensation.
Ask about re-routing and protected services
Check the airline’s notice and any ENAC list for your departure. Protected time bands do not guarantee each individual flight.
Keep records and request assistance
Save your booking, notification, actual arrival time and receipts. Ask the airline to arrange care while awaiting the earliest re-routing.
Your passenger rights
These rights concern flights covered by EU261. Departure, operating carrier and the actual disruption determine what you can claim.
Re-routing or refund
For a covered cancellation, choose reimbursement or re-routing whether or not the strike is considered extraordinary.
Care while waiting
Care may remain due while awaiting the earliest re-routing, including during external action. Retain necessary, reasonable expenses.
Possible financial compensation
easyJet’s own crew strike can have a different compensation outcome from a strike by external airport staff. The cause of your particular flight disruption must be established.
Update 15 October 2026: Pisa and Florence now listed for 30 October
- We re-read Italy’s official strike register (MIT, dated 15/10/2026). For 16 October there are two air-sector notices: easyJet flight crew (USB Lavoro Privato, 24 hours from 00:00 to 23:59, national) and Poste Air Cargo technical flight crew (24 hours, national).
- The notice for Toscana Aeroporti, GH Toscana and Consulta staff at Pisa and Florence is no longer listed for 16 October. The register instead lists a regional 24-hour notice by USB Lavoro Privato for 30 October 2026, from 00:00 to 23:59, proclaimed 12 October and received 13 October. The register does not say why, and we found no confirmation in news sources, so we do not claim that it replaces the earlier notice.
- The easyJet notice for 16 October remains. Poste Air Cargo is a cargo operator, and its notice does not automatically mean cancelled passenger flights.
- If you fly through Pisa or Florence on 16 October, the Tuscany notice no longer applies that day. Check the register again before 30 October.
- The 9 October status below remains as history.
Earlier check: 9 October 2026
- easyJet flying personnel: a national 24-hour notice on 16 October, from 00:00 to 23:59 Italian local time. This is an Italian notice, not a strike across easyJet’s entire European operation.
- Toscana Aeroporti, GH Toscana and Consulta staff at Pisa (PSA) and Florence (FLR): 24-hour notices on the same day. This is no longer listed for 16 October, see the update above.
- The register also lists Poste Air Cargo technical flying personnel. This is a separate cargo operation and does not automatically imply passenger-flight cancellations.
What remains uncertain?
Cancellation totals, participation and final airline schedules are not established. In the MIT register updated on 15 October, no ENAV or Venice security strike is listed for 16 October. Check the register again close to travel.
Separate the employer from the actual disruption
Keep the name of the carrier operating your flight and the reason given in your notice. The easyJet staff notice and the Tuscany airport notice (now for 30 October) concern separate disputes. Ask for a specific explanation if the carrier cites several causes. A general “Italy strike” headline cannot replace that assessment.
Which passenger rules apply?
EU261 normally covers departures from the EU on any carrier and arrivals into the EU from outside it on an EU carrier. The operating airline and route matter. A strike notice or schedule announcement alone is not proof that your booked flight was cancelled.
Can you claim standard compensation?
Under C-28/20, a union-organised strike by an airline’s own staff over employment conditions is normally not extraordinary. An external airport or handling strike may be. When several causes coincide, the airline needs to show what actually affected your flight and which reasonable measures were available.
Refund or re-routing
For a covered cancellation, you should be offered a choice: reimbursement, re-routing at the earliest opportunity under comparable conditions, or travel at a later suitable date subject to availability. These rights are separate from standard compensation. If you still want to travel, ask for re-routing before choosing reimbursement.
Food, hotel and help while waiting
When the care rules apply, the airline should provide reasonable meals and communication. Necessary overnight accommodation and transfers may also be required while you await re-routing at the earliest opportunity. Ask the airline to arrange help and keep itemised receipts for reasonable expenses if it fails to do so. Care is not automatic reimbursement of every pre-booked holiday cost.
Protected periods do not remove every knock-on risk
ENAC identifies general protected departure periods of 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 during strikes. The reviewed material does not establish a specific flight list for 16 October. Check future ENAC notices and your airline’s status; knock-on delays can still occur.
Frequently asked questions
It is not listed for that date in the current MIT register checked on 15 October. We therefore do not present older reports of an air traffic control stoppage as a current notice. Check register changes close to your journey.
No. The register describes flying personnel in an Italian national action. A particular flight could be affected by crew or aircraft rotations, but the notice does not establish cancellation of easyJet’s entire European programme.
Yes. One journey could be disrupted by easyJet’s own staff while another is affected by external airport staff. Cause, route, notice and arrival need assessment for each booking even when the disruption dates match.
