Confirmed: Aviation24 reports the figures from an assessment of airport flight boards. They count arrivals and departures, not return journeys.
Still uncertain: Official final counts, passenger numbers, full flight lists and Saturday’s status. These figures do not establish that the airports are currently closed.
Did you fly from an EU airport? Check whether the EU rules may apply
The check only covers flights that may fall under EU261: departures from an airport in the EU, or flights to the EU operated by an EU airline. Airlate does not currently handle claims under the UK rules (UK261), which normally cover departures from the UK. Which flights EU261 covers

Another flight problemWhat to do now
Check the date and direction
The report concerns Friday. Use the airline’s latest notice for your departure and return; an earlier cancellation count does not show today’s status.
Review a specific rerouting offer
Cancellation may involve reimbursement or rerouting under the applicable rules. Check the travel date and connections before accepting an alternative.
Ask for care during the wait
When conditions are met, meals and necessary accommodation with transport may be due. Keep reasonable receipts if the airline does not provide help.
Record your actual final arrival
Save your ticket, cancellation notice, replacement itinerary and documented cause. Record when you actually reach the final destination.
Your passenger rights
Departures from Brest and Caen normally fall under EU261. Jersey is outside the EU: check the departure point and operating carrier for each direction. Airlate does not handle UK261 claims.
Rerouting or reimbursement
For a cancellation covered by EU261, you may be entitled to choose reimbursement or rerouting under the regulation’s conditions. A weather warning alone does not give the same right if your flight operates.
Care is assessed separately
A qualifying wait may involve care even where fixed compensation is not payable. Check what the airline offers for meals, accommodation and necessary transport.
The weather-related cause needs evidence
Storm winds incompatible with safe flight can be extraordinary circumstances. The airline needs to establish the link to your disruption and show that reasonable measures were taken.
Reported outcome for 23 October, not a new closure
- Brest: 11 cancelled movements. Caen: three. Jersey: 22 departures and 19 arrivals.
- These are external board assessments relayed by Aviation24, citing Aerosillage.
- The reviewed material contains no confirmed consolidated final count for Europe.
A flight movement is not a return journey
A departure and an arrival are counted separately in the assessment. The same service may also appear in reports from different airports. We therefore do not construct a new Europe-wide total from these figures.
The report concerns Friday’s weather disruption. It does not establish that Brest, Caen or Jersey is closed when you read this article, or that every weekend cancellation has the same cause.
Jersey and France can involve different legal starting points
A departure from France may fall under EU261 regardless of airline. A journey from Jersey into the EU also requires checking the operating carrier. Assess each direction separately.
Airlate does not provide handling for routes covered only by UK261. Contact the airline about alternative travel and assistance. The possibility of a storm exception to fixed compensation does not itself determine the right to care.
Airlate handles EU261 claims
Journeys covered only by UK261 are outside our service. The departure point and operating carrier need to be checked.
