Europe flight bomb threats on 3 November: your rights
At a glance
Bomb threats prompted security checks on several European flights on 3 November 2026. A LOT service to Warsaw Chopin diverted to Modlin, which temporarily stopped operations and later reopened. Other flights were checked in Murcia, Sofia and Rome. The reports do not establish a three-hour arrival delay for every affected passenger. Follow airline instructions and keep evidence of your actual journey.

Confirmed: Aircraft were searched after reported threats. Modlin’s official announcements confirm that operations resumed and that the bomb alert was cancelled. Reports describe no explosives found on the checked aircraft.
Still uncertain: There is no consolidated list of final arrival delays or missed connections. The reports do not establish that the threats were connected or that every checked flight was cancelled or delayed by three hours.

Another flight problemWhat to do now
Follow the airline and security instructions
Use the airline’s app or desk for current travel arrangements. Do not make your own replacement booking before checking what the airline offers.
Ask about the booked destination
If you land at another airport, ask how you will reach the destination in your booking, who arranges transport and what expenses are covered.
Record the whole journey
Keep your itinerary, the airline’s stated reason, actual arrival and transfer times, and details of any missed connection on the same booking.
Ask for assistance and save receipts
During qualifying waits, ask for appropriate meals and, if necessary, accommodation. Keep receipts for reasonable necessary expenses if help is not provided.
Your passenger rights
EU261 coverage depends on departure point and operating airline. Copenhagen departures are covered; LOT’s Heathrow–Warsaw service can also qualify as an EU-carrier arrival. UK departures also require consideration of UK passenger-rights rules.
A security check alone does not establish compensation
A genuine response to a bomb threat may be extraordinary even if the threat proves false. The airline must demonstrate the link to your disruption and reasonable measures; actual arrival delay and other conditions matter.
Check onward transport and cancellation options
Ask about the transfer after a diversion. If your covered flight is cancelled, reimbursement or re-routing may be available under the applicable conditions.
Assistance is assessed separately
Necessary care may remain available during qualifying waits even where fixed compensation is excluded. A short security inspection does not by itself establish every assistance entitlement.
3 November status: searches completed; check your own onward journey
- Warsaw Modlin’s official announcements say operations resumed and the alert was cancelled. This was a temporary interruption, not an ongoing closure notice.
- Reports describe no explosives found after the aircraft inspections. There is no consolidated total of final arrival delays or affected onward connections.
- Later reporting identifies the Sofia arrivals as services from Dublin and Bergamo. Early claims about an Israel arrival are not used here.
- A reported threat, inspection or diversion does not by itself prove eligibility for fixed compensation.
Warsaw: LOT diverted to Modlin; SAS checked at Chopin
Reuters reported that a LOT flight from London Heathrow to Warsaw Chopin diverted to Modlin after a bomb threat, with 181 people on board. A separate SAS service from Copenhagen landed at Chopin and was checked there; Chopin continued operating.
Modlin’s subsequent official announcements confirm that flight operations resumed and that the alert was cancelled. Passengers should distinguish Modlin (WMI) from Chopin (WAW) when checking transfers and revised arrangements. Neither an airport reopening nor an aircraft all-clear establishes when each passenger reached the destination in their booking.
Murcia, Sofia and Rome: what the reports establish
Europa Press reports that the Manchester–Murcia Ryanair aircraft was searched, with no explosives found, and that airport operations resumed. The report gives 114 passengers and seven crew members. It does not establish a three-hour arrival delay for those passengers.
AP reports that two aircraft arriving in Sofia from Bergamo and Dublin were checked, with no explosives found; neither was diverted because of the threat. In Rome, Ryanair arrivals from Lisbon and Dublin also underwent checks without explosives being found. These reports do not provide a complete passenger-delay total.
Were the threats linked?
The reports reviewed do not establish a confirmed connection between the incidents. We do not treat them as a proven coordinated attack or add separate early and later reports together to create a larger flight total.
For travel decisions, your airline’s instructions and your actual itinerary matter more than a Europe-wide headline. Check the status of your own flight and any connection before leaving for the airport.
Can a false bomb threat still affect compensation?
Yes. A necessary response to a security threat may be an extraordinary circumstance even if no device is found. The airline must establish the cause of the actual disruption and show that reasonable measures could not have avoided it. An all-clear does not automatically turn the earlier safety response into an airline-controlled problem.
The reports do not establish that every passenger arrived at least three hours late. Record the actual arrival and onward transfer times, and ask the airline for its written explanation. Compensation requires an individual assessment of coverage, outcome and cause.
Which passenger-rights rules can apply?
EU261 normally covers EU departures regardless of airline, including the reported Copenhagen, Dublin, Bergamo and Lisbon services. For flights arriving from outside the EU, an EU operating carrier and the other conditions matter: LOT’s Heathrow–Warsaw flight can qualify. For Manchester–Murcia, check the actual operating carrier on the booking rather than relying on the airline brand alone.
UK passenger-rights rules also need consideration for departures from Heathrow and Manchester. The UK Civil Aviation Authority explains coverage and the conditions for delay assistance and compensation.
For a diversion, ask the airline how it will complete the journey and arrange any airport transfer. See landing at a different airport. If a covered flight is cancelled, check reimbursement or re-routing options before accepting a refund. Appropriate care may remain due during qualifying waits even where fixed compensation is excluded.
Frequently asked questions
The official announcements reviewed confirm that operations resumed and the alert was cancelled. Check your airline for any remaining effect on your own flight.
The reports reviewed describe no explosives found after the searches. That does not by itself establish the final delay experienced by each passenger.
No. A necessary security response can still be extraordinary. Coverage, the actual disruption, its cause and the airline’s reasonable measures must be assessed individually.
Ask the airline how it will get you to the booked destination and keep records of the transfer. The alternative-airport landing time alone may not describe the end of your journey.
Keep the evidence, but do not assume that an inspection alone meets compensation conditions. Check the actual arrival delay, any cancellation or missed connection, and the airline’s explanation.
